Chapter Five

Weight/Loss—223 pounds. I lost seven pounds. Not great, but at least I didn’t gain weight. Considering how many times Lance, Christian and I have gone out for dinner or ordered pizza for movie nights, it’s a miracle. Of course, Lance has Christian and me sweating our asses off at the gym four or five days a week, so that’s probably helping.

Goals for May—To have sex. I want to have sex. I NEED to have sex.

Christian leaned back in his chair and took a long swig of beer. Then he glanced toward the door of Blue Moon again.

Lance chuckled. “Watched pot never boils.”

“Thanks, Grandma.”

“She’s not supposed to be here for another half an hour. She and Georgie weren’t due back from their shopping excursion in the city until six. So stop watching the door and start enjoying happy hour.”

Lance was right, but that didn’t make the wait any better. For the past few months, Christian had kept his word to Shelly, offering her friendship and flirtation while giving her the time she needed to get herself sorted out. In that time, he’d fallen head over ass for the woman.

“Did you give any thought to joining that softball league with me?” Lance asked.

Since returning to Harrisburg, Lance and Christian had picked up the friendship they’d shared in high school. In some ways, that was great. Christian had missed his friend. They enjoyed the same things—sports, horror flicks, Thai food.

Those commonalities hadn’t changed a bit in the years that had passed. In fact, he thought perhaps they’d bled over into another area as well. Christian sensed they were both falling for the same woman.

No…he didn’t sense it.

He knew they were.

At some point, they needed to discuss it, but for now, Christian preferred to ignore it because he sucked at dealing with shit like this. There was too much gray area and not a single black and white line. He could discuss hard drives, circuits and computer viruses for hours on end, but whenever the subject veered toward emotions and feelings, Christian shut down and shut up. He preferred realms where there were right or wrong answers. With Lance and Shelly, nothing was clear cut or an easy fix.

Hell, he was only just now figuring out how to talk to Shelly about his feelings and even that was difficult. He didn’t like floundering, yet lately that was all he was doing. Doggie-paddling while trying to keep his head above water. The worst part was he wasn’t afraid of drowning. He was happy and having fun. The little devil on his shoulder kept telling him to ride the wave as long as he could before the inevitable crash into shore.

“Christian?” Lance waved a hand in front of his face. “You’re not paying attention to me. Softball?”

“I’m not sure you want me on your team. I haven’t picked up a glove since high school and even then, I pretty much sucked. I’d just be dead weight.”

“You weren’t that bad. Besides somebody’s gotta play left field.
